Tanney in Ireland

How would I go about finding Irish ancestors? My gr grandparents are on the 1881 census but they state their place of birth as Ireland - no town or county to go on. I tried googling Tanney to see if the name was from a particular area but it didn't actually come up as an Irish name. Anyone got any advice what I should do?
