Lookup STAMPER, Stonegrave
« on: Sunday 23 April 06 16:51 BST (UK) »
Can anyone find a Reed STAMPER?
Mentioned in White's 1840 directory as a farmer in Stonegrave.
May have connections to a STAMPER family in Nunnington (possibly Robert, Thomas or William could be his father).
Thanks, Maggie.

Hi Maggie,

There is no REED STAMPER.  Are you sure it's not Richard?  The 1840 Directory says Rd. Stamper.

There's a Richard Stamper (a farmer aged 60) in Nunnington in 1841 with wife, Frances and children, Ellen, Thomas, Sarah, Margaret and John and lots of servants - do you want these details?

Cheers

Gina

Thanks Gina, Please send the census details you have found as they may well be relevant as I haven't found him yet. Reed as a christian name crops up in our family but may have misread it!
Best wishes, Maggie

Thanks Gina, they must have been a wealthy family to employ all those servants. Just a thought- but if you have a name index could you just check for the name reversed
ie. Stamper Reed. My husband's family is descended from the Thomas Stamper above , when his daughter married a Reed in 1879, but there seems to be an earlier linking of the two families through the missing chap somewhere!

Hi Maggie

Sorry, I can't find a Stamper REED either.  Do you have any idea whe he was born?

By the way - the Richard STAMPER above married Frances PEACOCK who is the Great Aunt of Selina PEACOCK, she married Charles Corner MAGSON and his aunt, Ellen CARR (nee CORNER) is my 3xGGrandmother!!  Small world?

Cheers

Gina

Thanks Gina,
Richard Stamper is my husbands 3xGGfather, so a small world indeed!
Sorry don't have any idea of the missing guys d.o.b., he is listed as a farmer in 1840 in Stonegrave along with John Reed, another 3xGGfather, so suspect he may have been elderly then as he is not in later directories.
Thanks for your help, best wishes Maggie.
