Williams family - Appledore?
« on: Sunday 23 April 06 18:57 BST (UK) »
I found that my great great great grandmother was Barbara Lang of Appledore.  As she was born and married pre-registration, the only certificate that I could order was the birth certificate of her son, my great great grandfather.  This showed her maiden name to be Williams.  However, from the censuses she was stated to be born in Dunhell, Scotland (which doesn't even appear to exist, on searching Google).  I am wondering if she just happened to be born in Scotland (perhaps her father worked there) or whether she was from an Appledore family.   I wonder if anyone would be able to help me find the marriage of Barbara Williams and Henry Lang - they were born around 1800, perhaps it will give her father's name.  Many thanks.   :)

Hi Sybella, the only Barbara Williams I can find born around 1800 in Scotland is this one, Barbara Williams born 30 March 1799, Christened 7 Apr 1799 at Inveresk, Midlothian, Scotland, daughter of John Williams and Jean McMillan.

I see on one of the census' her place of birth is Dunkell, this is more than likely Dunkeld, which is sometimes called Dunkell. Its in Perthshire. So the Barbara I gave you is probably not your Barbara.
