Crowle Parish Registers COMPLETE
« on: Tuesday 25 April 06 00:53 BST (UK) »
Hi Sasha
I am interested in an entry for an Easther Taylor baptised 1764 in Crowle to William & Easther.  I am looking for my 3rd Gt Grandmother ESTHER Taylor born in that period and not at all sure if it is her because of the different spelling.

My Esther had two brothers George and John and that is all I know about her I'm afraid, except that she was living in the Lincoln area before she died.

I would be grateful if you could tell me what the transcription says for Easther Taylor in 1764, also if there is a John and George Taylor around the same period born to those parents.

Thank you
Lybis

I suspect Crowle may be a red herring. There were Taylors in Fillingham , at the right time (ref your other post) and a Summers link there too.

Hi John

I suspect you are correct about Crowle.  I just can't find anything in Fillingham, I have had the Parish register out twice now and not a sign of Taylors or Summers. I am getting desperate  :(

Am I missing something ??  Would you please let me know where you have found the Taylors and Summers in Fillingham.  Esther Summers was Esther Taylor's aunt, and I don't even know the name of Esther Taylor's mother apart from the fact that it would be Summers.

Be grateful for any help John

In your other post ,you ref an aunt , Esther Summers , who mentioned Esther Hare (nee Taylor) in her will, in 1825.

An LDS member entry for Esther Summers in IGI , has her born Fillingham  1734-1736, marrying Cecil Wray and dying 1 Feb 1825.

Whilst there are no Summers baptisms in IGI extracted records in Fillingham, there was one earlier Summers marriage-  Sarah Summers- Thomas Meek 1764. So there is a Summers connection in Fillingham.

As to Taylors....this is a fairly small parish - pop less than 250 in 1800.

Fillingham baptisms indicate a Taylor presence there from the early 1700s to mid 1800s :
IGI batch C028242 (1599-1774)- 12 Taylors
IGI batch C028241 (1774-1875)- 31 Taylors

You already have Esther Taylor mar Charles HARE 1785, Fillingham.

There were other marriages of possible siblings in Fillingham around the same time:
Sarah mar Richard Hornby 1772
William mar Sarah Smith 1785
Mary mar William Coulson 1787

The probable parents for all or most of those were Edward Taylor mar Mary FOX, 1758, Fillingham.

Marriages source is Lawres Deanery marriages.

The only other possible Fillingham parents for Esther Taylor are Samuel Taylor and Elizabeth Dickenson - ref an LDS member entry for a 1750 marriage in Lincoln which has Samuel b 1726 in Fillingham

Hi John

Thank you for your help.  You have certainly given me something to digest.

The information about Esther Summers marrying Sir Cecil Wray is correct. They lived in Fillingham Castle (Summer Castle) which he built for his wife.  My 3rd Gt Grandmother Esther Taylor joined them there after the death of her husband Charles Hare in 1801, she remained there for many years.

Esther (Summers) Wray died in 1825 naming Esther (Taylor) Hare in her will and stating she was a widow in Lincoln.  Esther Wray also names a sister Elizabeth Thoroughgood and nephews George & John Taylor living in Essex.

According to an LDS member Esther Summer's father is James Summers, but I have no way of knowing if that is correct.

Appreciate all you have done John, I will certainly give all you have given me much thought and let you know how I get on.
