WILLIAM DODSWORTH, 1837
« on: Saturday 16 October 04 17:48 BST (UK) »
I have not been able to trace a birth or baptism record for WILLIAM DODSWORTH, born 1837. Census records show his place of birth as variously, Scruton and York.
I wrote to Harrogate, but the only record for William Dodsworth they found was a death in 1840, aged 4.
Can anyone suggest where I might look next?

Hi Minor,
I am not sure if this is your man. It does not seem to be an unusual name! Hope it helps, Frances

No sorry, it was kind of you to take the time,  but the William Dodsworth I am looking for gave John Dodsworth as father on his marriage certificate.

Hi Rids
The names certainly both appear in my tree.
My great g grandfather was William Dodsworth. He is from my paternal line, my Nana being a Dodsworth.
Also in the paternal line, Elizabeth Baister, born 1846 in Haswell, married Thomas Clavering in 1863 at Seaham Harbour. Let me know if you see a connection.

Found a William Dodsworth
September Quarter 1838 Born Northallerton
24 (XXIV) 363

Probably reason they couldn't find it is because it is mistranscribed as 25 363

Sombody doesn't know there Roman numerals

Scruton was in Northallerton registration district from 1837-39 when it went into Bedale

Hi Minor,

Saw your Dodsworth query.  Do you have any connection to a "Daisy" Dodsworth?  Not sure if this is her real name - found two in the Free BMD listing for 1894 and 1899.  I am trying to do some research for my friend who was named after her gm.  Not sure if she married properly??? but her married name should of been Gee.

Regards
Valerie
