Elizabeth Scriven/Wedge born 1844
« on: Monday 01 May 06 10:39 BST (UK) »
Hi there,
Could some kind person possibly help me with this query ?
Elizabeth Scriven was born in the Enville area about 1844.
She married John Wedge at Enville in 1864.
I have checked the 1881 census for them and can't see them anywhere !
So wondered if anyone had the 1871 census for that area and could possibly check to see if they were still in that area ?

Any help much appreciated  :) :)

This explains things, I think ...

1881 Kingswinsford, Staffs
RG11/2893 folio 156 page 27
"Lower Delph"
Charles Guager, head, 40, builders laborer, Stourbridge Worcs
Elizabeth Guager, wife, 36, Enville Staffs
George Arthur Wedge, stepson, 9, scholar, Kinver Staffs
Alfred Davis, nephew, 5, Kingswinford Staffs
Emma Jane Guager, daughter, 2, Kingswinford

So it looks like John Wedge died after (say) 1872 and that Elizabeth remarried in the late 1870s.

1891 Kingswinford
RG12/2307 folio 51 page 15
"Bromley Lane"
Charles W Gaiger [note spelling!], head, m, 50, gardener, Stourbridge Staffs
Elizabeth Gaiger, wife, m, 46, Enville Staffs
Emma J Gaiger, daur, 12, scholar, Kingswinford Staffs
Mary A L Wedge, step daur, 26, CoCay Mixer[!], Kinver Staffs
George A Wedge, step son, 19, terracotta tile edger, Kinver Staffs
Alfred Davis, nephew, 15, Kingswinford Staffs
James H Wedge, grandson, 2, Kingswinford Staffs

I wonder whether "CoCay" was an early brand name for Coca-Cola?
After all, "soda mixer" was a known occupation.

I also wonder where daughter Mary was ten years earlier?
