Annaghmaghera -Roscommon
« on: Tuesday 02 May 06 14:46 BST (UK) »
Has anyone any info on this location?  I only have vague memories of my father saying his family was from this area.  Don't know if it was his paternal line - Broderick or maternal, Kennedy.  Suspect it may have been his father, John.
Thanks
annebrod

Hello annebrod,

All I've been able to do is find that Annaghmaghera might be near Castlerea. I suggest you contact Roscommon County Library to see if they can give you some information about Annaghmaghera. I'm sending you a PM with some information that should assist you make contact with the library.

Annaghmaghera is in the Parish of Kilkeevin.
Kilkeevin means the St Kevins Church and Annaghmaghera means the Marsh of the Plain.
 Regards.
 Tom.

Hi Tom
Your last post for me said Kilkeevin means St Kevin's church.  Is this a translation of the word Kilkeevin or the name of the actual Church?
Thanks

You would be stunned if you knew just how many places are names after Churches and Saints here in Ireland. Kilkeevin is the name of the Church but would also be the name of a place. Take Kilkenny for an example It means the Church of St Canice but it is also the name of the whole county and still means the Church of St Canice.
regards.
 Tom.
