George and Mary Randoll - Broad Chalke
« on: Wednesday 03 May 06 12:30 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to find out where George and Mary Randoll got married - with no success.

Both George and Mary were born c1765, their eldest child Raynold was born in Broad Chalke in 1787, so we are looking at a window of between 1782-87.  George Randoll was a yeoman farmer in Broad Chalke.

If anyone connects to this couple or anyone comes across a possible marriage I would be pleased to hear from you.

It would be superb to make some progress on this brickwall.  Who was Mary?

Hi,
I was unable to find the marriage of George and Mary Randoll in Broad chalk, but did find other relevant information.........

Baptisms in Broad Chalk

1.   Sarah d of Raynold and Hannah Randol 17 Dec 1764
Sarah d of Raynold and Hannah Randole 6 Apr 1766
GEORGE s of Raynold and Hannah Randole 6 Apr 1766

2.   Raynold s of George and Mary Randoll 27 Dec 1787

Perhaps Mary was from outside Broad Chalk so the marriage would normally have taken place in her parish.

Cheers Dave

Thanks Dave,

Very kind of you to check the Broad Chalk register,  you have found the baptism entry for George himself.

I assume that Mary was from elsewhere but struggle to find marriages that might fit the couple.   George and Mary had several children christened in Broad Chalke after Raynold but they also had a son George born around 1787 who does not appear to have been christened there - possibly baptised in Mary's home parish.  Unfortunately this George Randoll (the son of George and Mary) died in 1849 before the 1851 census info could help.

Its all a game of guesswork.   I have gggrandparents who were married in Montgomeryshire.   Their first child (my ggrandmother) was born in Cornwall - her father's home.   Then others were born in Montgomeryshire and the last 2 children in Cardiganshire.
I can look further back if you wish for possible marriage and baptisms of Raynold and Hannah Randol.
Cheers Dave

Thanks Dave,

I guess I will have to search further afield but then it is hard to be sure you have the right family.

I would be pleased if you can find anything for Raynold and Hannah.  The IGI had a marriage for Raynold Randoll and Hannah Bowden in Broad Chalke 6 Mar 1764. I don't know if the parish record can add anything.  I don't have details for their christenings - anything there would be very helpful.
