Can anyone please provide information about the marriage of William Jackson born c1817 in Whaley Bridge to Ann ? born c1821 in Warrington ?  Their first child (James) was born in 1840, so the marriage probably took place around that year.

Since posting the question above (dated Friday 5th May) I have found a possible marriage which took place in Warrington in 1837 between William Jackson and Ann Henshaw.

I have also noticed that Ann's date of birth varies from c1818 to c1821 on the census forms that she appears on as William's wife.

So, I think that there is a strong possibility that this might be what I was looking for and I will try to check it out.

Yes, you need to get  one of the children's birth certificate to check mother's maiden name

Hi

It has been a long time coming but after taking Bob's advice and obtaining the birth certificate of their son, Martin born 1857 (who also happens to be the one that is our direct ancestor), his mother's name was Ann Jackson formerly Haughty. She was the informant and she made her mark.

So, I am now looking for the marriage of William Jackson and Ann Haughty (or something that sounds like Haughty).

Their first child, James, was born in 1840 at Furness Vale or Disley, Cheshire. Their last child, Lewis, was born in 1863 at Whaley Bridge, Cheshire. They had eleven children in total at fairly regular intervals over the 23 years. The first eight were born at Furness or Disley. The last five were born at Whaley Bridge.

William Jackson was born c1817 at Whaley Bridge and his wife, Ann, was born 1818 - 1821 at Warrington.

Can anyone help, please ?

DS

Edit: Corrected Spelling of Whaley Bridge.

Hi

I am a stranger to these parts but the 1861, 1871 and 1891 census sheets which include Martin Jackson all say it was in Cheshire. The 1881 census sheet for him says Derbyshire and his birth registration page says Macclesfield, Cheshire/Derbyshire.

Hi Bob

Thanks very much for looking.

I have found most of the children's baptisms at Taxal, St James. I also spotted the surname Haughty a couple of times on those lists but I still cannot find the marriage of William Jackson and Ann Haughty :-\

I Looked in Bertram Merrell Marriage index, NE Cheshire Marriage index, Free BMD for the first 3 years.

I am interested as I have Jacksons, though in a different area
