can anyone help or advise me regarding zipporah williamson born 1876 in mottram,cheshire.i have a census from 1881 with zipporah(zepporah) living in 7 greenfield st,glossop dale,derbys with her aunts/uncles and grandparents...no sign of mother or father....was glossop dale the old name for glossop??? how far is mottram from glossop dale??....would like to find zipporahs mother and father....i have her parents and grandfather,but her parents are a missing link...any help appreciated...kind regards...allan

Zipporah Williamson born June qtr 1876 Hayfield Derbyshire 7b 810.

Hayfield will be a registration district not to be confused with the place she might be living.

You can order her birth certificate online at www.gro.gov.uk at a cost of £7 which will give you her parents names, including mother's maiden name and their occupations.  Unless you can find the baptism entry at the local Records Office then this is your best bet for getting their names and so help you to continue.

You could also give the full details from the 1881 census and we could try and find the family in earlier censuses and try to identify who were the parents, mahybe by process of elimination of other familiy members, but this wouldn't be definitive, only the certificate will prove absolutely.

The mother might well be there in 1881 too... Selena or Charlotte are the right age...

thanks girls...she married in sept 1991 which makes her just 15yrs of age...her daughter martha was my gandmother..will check out census again ...regards..allan

Well I agree that they are possible mothers, but because of the birthplace I wondered whether there was an older child in the family, not showing up in 1871.

James Williamson married Margery Kaye June qtr 1851 Hayfield, Derbyshire 19 581.  That accounts for where Charles got his middle name!

I wonder why James wasn't with the family in 1871?  But this also might be another contender for father of Zipporah.
