WW1 service records
« on: Monday 08 May 06 06:54 BST (UK) »

I am seeking service information on two of my Gt Uncles who died in WW1, Broughton Abbott, Number 2397 1st Bn Lancashire Fusiliers, Died 17 July 1917 in France and Albert Abbott, Number 38223 1/5th Bn Somerset Light Infantry, Died Egypt 26 November 1918, formerly 22755 East Lancashire Regiment.

I would appreciate any help

Many thanks for your reply. Yes I do have most of the information, I was hoping for more of their service info.

We have Broughton Abbott, died France as you have it, Atkinson Abbott is my Grandfathewr who served in the Boer war I believe but I have no information on his service life.
Albert Abbott is Broughton's brother and he died in Egypt of Malaria as you have said. Just to confuse things, we also have a Broughton Atkinson in the family but I don't know much about him as yet.
There was quite a number of family members who either died, was wounded or survived the WW1

Just as a matter of interest, Broughton Abbott went through the Gallipoli campaign eventualy getting frost bite, returned to England for recuperation then went to France being badly wounded after only six weeks and died of his injuries. I'm sure this or similar happened to many of our troops.
Regards
Gorwyn

1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers arrived back in England 2 January 1915. they were attached to 86th Brigade, 29th Division.

a summary of the 29th Division history can be found on the long long trail site
