Tracking my Dad's family
« on: Friday 12 May 06 14:28 BST (UK) »
My Dad ,George Llewelyn Samuel Burrows ,was born In Bromsash near Hereford in 1906.He died when I was 14 and,to be honest,we didn't talk much.
I am trying to track the family's movements between 1906 and 1940 when he married my Mum in Bromley,Kent.
He was a radio operator for the Metropolitan Police on their marriage cert.that's all I know
The next census isn't out until 2011,of course, and no-one in my family knows where they were..I have no idea whatsoever what school he went to.
My grandfather ,George Frederick, veered from one occupation to another(gardener, asylum attendant, groom, mechanic, you name it!) so he wouldn't be aligned with any professional organisation or society and my grandma (Jane nee Rosser)probably went back to being a governess or a teacher..it's just frustrating that I can't account for their movements (Officer) for nearly 35 years
Any ideas what I can do?
Apart from Friends Reunited (which would be useless anyway 'cos my Dad would be 100 in August)is there a register of pupils names to schools anywhere?
Thanks
CHRISB

Hi ChrisB

Unless you have any idea which schools he may have attended, I don't think you'll have much luck there :(

Have you tried the Metropolitan Police, assuming that he was employed by them ???

Did he have any siblings?

Have you looked for his parents' deaths?

Bromsash is actually near Ross on Wye, almost in the Forest of Dean.

You could write to the Ross on Wye Register Office [Old Chapel, Cantilupe St, Ross on Wye Herefordshire ] and ask if they hold the death certificates for George and Jane.

There should be Electoral Rolls for the area once you can locate a possible address. those will be in the Hereford record Office.

Also try their index, or see if anyone has indexed the local papers, Ross Gazette etc and if there is a reference there.
