Jane Thorpe b1832: completed
« on: Saturday 13 May 06 09:36 BST (UK) »
Jane Thorpe b 1832, Warthermarske, Masham, Yorks daughter of Edward and Ellen (Elleanor) Thorpe.

In 1841 she's living with parents in Masham. She's not there in 1851.

In 1901 she's on the Isle of Wight, living on her own means, age 68.

Where is she from 1851- 1891?  ::)

In 1851 Boroughbridge, Yorkshire in the household of Elizabeth Nuist/Hirst? Solicitor's Wife, children and visitors

Did she never marry? was her name still Thorpe when you found her in 1901?

Thanks Mary, That's definitely her ;D.  Warthermarske is only 5 houses.  She's using the name Jane Thorpe in 1901, asuming at this stage never married.

Have you not looked at the image of the 1901 census?? The Jane Thorp born Masham on there states that she is widowed.

I would suspect that this is the Jane Carter who married Henry Bell Thorp in 1872.  Henry died in 1900.

Are you sure it is the same Jane Thorpe in 1901? She states she is a widow.
On the 1891 census in York there is a Jane Thorp aged 58 born Masham the wife of retired draper Henry Bell Thorp (who dies in Scarborough in 1900). The couple are in York on the 1881 census.

No, I'm not sure it is the same Jane Thorpe.  I'd suggest reading the last two posts it is the other person suggested.  Thanks for your help.  I will try to find a marriage again, after 1851.

Hi Kasby,

Unless you have found something else before completing
it may be worth noting:

Birth Mar. 1853
Jane Thorpe  Knarebro  9a 89

If this ties in with the death of Jane Thorpe, which Valda
did say was only a possibility, this Jane looks more likely
to be an infant death?

See what you think,

Regards
Pels
