Hi
Rats  :(, was hoping it wasn't you  ;D, and sorry no I have nothing except curiosity!  Though I note on IGI there is apparently a record for her that is "Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record":
Mary J TRAPLIN born 1840   West Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts.

Did she appear on the Census thru USA after she married PICKUP - ie: what do they say about where she was born?

Cheers

1871 census in Hespeler, Canad lists her bithplace as England.  However, I have also seen a reference to a place called Aurora - i am told that is NOT in England, so I am thinking maybe it is Canada since Jeremiah emigrated to Canada.  It's a puzzle, for sure!!!

Hi
Have you considered she was from the Old Country?
This one looks very good to me!

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
There is a birth:
March Quarter  1841
Mary Jane TRAPLIN
District: Helston  Vol: 9 page: 141
[The district Helston is in the county of Cornwall]

Cheers

i got her birthdate from her gravestone in Holyoke, MA.  Could that record you provided be the date her birth was registered in the UK as opposed to her actual birthdate?

Hi
Yes the entry on BMD is the registration year - and being 1st Quarter of 1841, that Mary Jane TRAPLIN was very likely born end of 1840.
Here is info on how English Civil Registration works:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/civreg/

Her christening entry is on the IGI I thinK
Mary Jane TRAPLIN chr Mullion, Cornwall 13 Apr 1841
Parents: Richard TRAPLIN and Mary Ann

Mullion is a village is within the Registration district of Helston.
http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/helston.html

I can find no other births of a TRAPLIN in Helston District on FREEBMD (which are not complete) but it indicates the family may have moved - perhaps they all immigrated when Mary Jane was young.  What did your Mary Jane and Jeremiah name their children?

I also can't find a Richard TRAPLIN on Census 41 Index name may be mispelled....?
There aren't many TRAPLIN entries at all on UK Census and on IGI, and most seem however come up in Cornwall....

Cheers
