Gordon of Enniskillen
« on: Sunday 14 May 06 03:46 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I have Patrick Gordon born about 1824 who married Margaret Brady about 1864 in Enniskillen.  They had moved to Glasgow Scotland by 1886.

Margaret's parents were John Brady and Margaret McNaught, but as I can't find a death registration for Patrick, I cannot trace who his parents may have been.

I would like to trace the Irish heritage of the Gordon family, and would like to also find out where and when Patrick died, as it appears it wasn't in Scotland.  He was a tailor by trade, and was alive in 1891 according to the Scottish census, but had died by 1893 when his daughter Helen married.

Thanks for reading,

Nina

Thanks Audrey,

Yes I had seen those before, and have always been puzzled by them calling one son Francis and another Frank.  I know Francis survived as he married in Sxcotland, but I don't know about Frank.

There was also a daughter Sarah born 1865, a Bartholomew b. 1876 and a Joseph 1879.

Ellen (or Helen)b 1870 is my gg grandmother.

Thanks for taking the time to find that for me.

I finally found Patrick's death in Glasgow 1893.  His name was mis-indexed as Partick  :o.

His father was Owen Gordon, mother Rose Murray.

Hi Naul,

I am interested in knowing more about Hugh.  I don't have him listed with the other children of Patrick Gordon and his wife Margaret Brady.  Can you please tell me who he married, where and when, so I can follow it up?  If we do have a connection, I have a lot more information to share...five years has passed since my first post about this!  ;D

Hello Nina, Well here we go. Hugh married Mary Rebecca Farrell on 03 Sept.1890 in County Cavan. According to the church marriage record Patrick Gordon and Margaret Brady are listed as his parents and are from Enniskillen. Hugh was married twice. In his first marriage to mary rebecca they had eight children, Michael 1893, Hubert 1895 my grandfather, Patrick 1897, Annie 1900, Maureen 1902, Martha 1904, Kathleen 1906, Andrew1908. His wife Mary Rebecca died in childbirth 1908. He remarried in 1911 to an Ellen Trainor and guess what,he had a further eight children. Even by Irish standards that is some family. They are *. I know that Hugh Gordon died in Clones  in 1935.

Hello Naul,

If they are the same Patrick Gordon and Margaret Brady, then Hugh must have elected to remain behind in Ireland when the entire family moved to Glasgow between 1880 and 1886.  And I am trying to work out how old Hugh was.  The eldest child I have so far is Sarah Gordon born in 1865 in Enniskillen.  It seems to me Hugh must have been older than her, as the other births are two years or less apart.  Unless of course he was someone's twin.

Regarding the red writing above, you can't send me a personal message (PM) until you have posted to the board three times.

According to the 1911 census Hugh Gordon was age 45 (born c1866)-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Monaghan/Clones_Urban/Fermanagh/804334

However, in 1901 Hugh's age is given as 40 (born c1861)-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Monaghan/Clones_Urban/Whitehall_Street/1631528

Also, this Hugh Gordon and family are living in Monaghan not County Fermanagh.
