Hi

I may be able to help, but cannot promise.

Was George born in Wisbech, or out of the town?  The records are kept at the Wisbech & Fenland Museum and I believe they charge about £7.50 per hour to research the records, so any further information you can supply can cut the searching down.

Ken, the sum total of data I have is contained in the 1851 and 1861 census entries which both simply state that he was born in "Cambridge Wisbech." Not much help I guess.

thanks very much !

Doug

Hi Doug

Nope ... not a lot of help as the records in the M7useum only go up to 1837 ....... I'll try to find out from the local FHS .. I've recently joined, so I don't know who is who or who will do what, as yet.  I'll keep trying for you.

All parish register baptisms in Cambs 1801-37 are indexed on http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html

There's no George York(e) I'm afraid. But search against York - there were some baptisms in Wisbech at around the right time who may have been connected.

So either his family was non-conformist and he wasn't baptised or he was baptised in a non-conformist church whose registers have not been transcribed.

Carole's reply shows that some Yorkes at least were non-conformist

Regards

David
