« on: Tuesday 19 October 04 14:13 BST (UK) »
I would be very grateful for a lookup of the folowing family please in the 1871 census.

Wood W Whiting age 41 Joiner bn Saltfleet, Lincs
Angelina Whiting wife Dressmaker age 38 bn Hull, Yorks
James Whiting son age 8 bn Hull, Yorks

They married in 1852 at Hull & were living at 10 Ports Place, Sculcoates in the 1881 census so should be in the area.

Wondering if your Whitings link with my Whitings. Fanny Whiting was born in Hull in about 1820 and married John Cross (born Withernsea). They were living in Grimsby in 1851 for no reason I can discover and might well have had Lincs relatives taking them there. They were in Sculcoates in 1881 (Oxford St) to be near their daughter Matilda Carver. I have traced Whitings back (with a huge amount of help) to late 1600s. Happy to share information if anything looks familiar.

Hi Nick

It's unlikely that we are related I'm afraid. :(

The reason I'm interested in the Whitings is because of Angelina Harrison who married Wood W Whiting in 1852.

My Edward Luddington (bn Barrow but no bp found) & Ann (nee Johnson) had an Angelina Harrison aged 8 staying with them in the 1841 census at Marsh Chapel Lincs. She must have been a relative of some sort, possibly a grandchild. I would like to know how she links in to the Luddington or Johnson families in order to get back further as I've hit a brick wall.

The only Angelina Harrison I could find on the IGI (none at Marsh Chapel) is the one above. She is the right age. I've not been able to work forward from 1841 so thought I might try working backwards to see if that helped. I don't even know for certain that she is the same Angelina Harrison.

I would be interested to hear if any of your folk have Wood as their first name though?

Thanks for your interest - it would have been nice to have found a "rellie".

Thanks for your very comprehensive reply. Nobody I have found to date is called Wood Whiting. Thomas proliferates with the ubiquitous Johns and Williams thrown in. I do have the rather magnificently named Hazelrigg Bullman amongst my Northumbrian ancestors which would be sure to spark some sign of recognition amongst people researching that name, but for the most part my family has been rather staid in their naming of offspring. Will bear your research interests in mind in case something interesting comes to light in the future.

Here they are :

Civil Parish : Holy Trinity
Kingston upon Hull

Looks like 1 Greton Place but bit hard to read.  It's near Garden Street and Clarence Place, Portland Street.  I know there is a Garton's Place in Portland Street so it's probably that.

Wood W Whiting/Head/41/Joiner/Saltfleet, Lincolnshire
Angelina Whiting/Wife/37/Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire
James Whiting/Son/looks like a 7/Scholar/Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire
Maria Whiting/Daughter/6/Scholar/Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire
Edith Whiting/Daughter/1/Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire

Hi Jola

Many, many thanks for your information, I am very grateful. Will store it away with the other information I have on Angelina.

I will hopefully find that link someday. Lots of my Marsh Chapel folk had links with Hull so think perhaps one of Edward's brothers or sisters moved there. I feel sure she is Edward Luddington's grand-daughter - just have to prove it!
