"An Hotel in Halifax"
« on: Tuesday 16 May 06 11:24 BST (UK) »
Hi, Everyone,
Having unsuccessfully tried to discover the whereabouts of a Holdsworth near Halifax as a place of birth/baptism in 1697, I have discovered by googling a modern day hotel called Holdsworth House, apparently built in 1633...
Does anybody know where I might find some kind of history of this building?
Very best wishes,
Keith

Keith:

From your Scout Hall enquiry, you're obviously familiar with my Calderdale Companion and will have visited the entry for Holdsworth House there at

What more would you like to know?

Malcolm,
Sorry, a complete oversight on my part not to consult your Companion first.  I have done so now, and am more the wiser...!
Very best wishes,
Keith
N.B. A mere coincidence, but I've just realised that woman who adopted my grandmother in 1899 or so in Hampstead was born in Ovenden, according to the Census...
