George BELL - which Boer War?

Hi Izabel,

Oh for the knowledge of a unit.  My great grandfather George Bell was born c1852 in Ireland he deserted his wife Mary in 1878 in Lanarkshire, Scotland.  He later went to the Boer War (not known which one).  His son William John Bell and family and his mother Mary came to Western Australia.  George Bell must have corresponded with his family in Western Australia and one photo survived of a tipsy looking fellow leaning on some furniture and with a red cross badge. George Bell is presumed to have died in Africa.

I suppose that if all our family history was easy we would miss the challenge.
