I'm not having much luck finding him either on CWGC or on the WWI soldiers Canadian records - is it possible he enlisted in the US? That would explain why he isn't found on either on those sources (presuming he died in WWI)

He is in Port Stanley in 1901 and 1911 (as William J. McKenzie in 1911)

Good Morning
Do you have any idea which Regiment he joined? Any other info you have
would be a great help no matter how small.
What proof do you have that he died at Passchendale?

Could not find him on WW1 Canadian Expeditionery Forces  or in US either.

Hello OzyBob

I have found James William McKenzie. Reason for not finding him last name spelled
MacKenzie.
www.collectionscanada.ca/02/02010602_e.html you can find his attestation papers.
Canadian Virtual War Memorial will give you information on his burial.

I contacted Mr. Diebel in Kitchner and found Bessie passed away but was able to get
some information from Mr Diebel.
James William's body was never found due to a shell hitting their foxhole. The military
informed his parents of his death by way of a telegram.
James sent his parents a flower from the fields at Passchendale which the family still
has to this day.
I am waiting for a email from Mr Diebel which should contain a picture of him .I will send
it on to you when I receive it.

Regards from Canada.
