Hi Carol,

Ilderton is very close to the Border and looking in Roxburgh I found the baptism of Helenor daughter of George Turnbull & Mary Laidlaw baptised 31 August 1834. This is in the Yetholm register.

Looking back to Wooler registers which cover Ilderton, in the Cheviot Street register there is the baptism of Mary Laidler on the 25 January 1811, daughter of Thomas & Eleanor Laidler of Flinthill, Ilderton Parish. she was born 29 December 1810.

Also in Cheviot Street baptised on the 10th April 1837 is Mary Ann, daughter of George & Mary Turnbull of Millfield Plain, Kirknewton Parish, born 3 April 1837.

I hope this is your familly!

Oh Emjay - you little star  It definitely looks like it could be.

George has always stated that he was from Scotland (all census) so it could be the Roxburgh area even though the siblings I have for him are all from Northumberland. Going by the children's names and the usual naming ritual of Father's father first and then mother's father second it would be right as the first son is William and the second is Thomas. That means George's mother could be either Ann or Mary Ann.

I will check out Thomas and Eleanor now and see what I can find

Thanks again

Carol

Hi Carol

I was just at Ilderton the other weekend - my gr gr gr grandparents were married there in 1838. I took my parents up there to see the church. My Dad thought he knew everywhere in North Northumberland but he'd never been to Ilderton. If you head up toward Wooler its the turn off after |Rosedn Farm - it's up the hill above Ingram Valley. I took some photos of the church - let me know if you want to see them. There's very little there - just a few houses and a manor house - seems there is a family of Ildertons of Ilderton who probably live in the manor house.

That would be great Tessy. I am trying to build up a file and as I have no photos of the family that far back I thought I would put photos and pictures of the area instead

I will PM you

Thanks again

Carol

Just a quick update on the Turnbull family I have

I sent a letter to someone on LDS site last week about a possible link and they have contacted me this morning about it. He is hubby's 3rd cousin so I am phoning him tonight (when things are a bit quieter here) to chat about all the info we have between us

Now I should be able to go back that little bit further.

Thanks for all your help everyone
