Property Bristol
« on: Wednesday 24 May 06 20:26 BST (UK) »
How do I find out what happen to a property that was in my family around 1900c in the Bristol area.  I was told by my father that his grandfather had 6 properties but they all disappeared and his mother ended up living in two rooms in a slum area of Bristol, just intrigued as to how this came about.

Change of ownership of property has to be registered.  The Land Registry in Bristol would have records.  I don't know how far back they would have them - early records are in Registers of Deeds kept in record offices.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

Hi K
All my family live in Bristol and I visit fairly often and know the place really well, I live in Knowle and Shirehampton.  Really trying to get a handle on some old property in Bristol by gg grandfather used to own in Penn Street, Bristol -  my dad who was born in Penn St., said the gg grandfather own 6 properties, including 24, 15 Penn Street and 10 Cross Street which was a house and a shop.  This all dates back to about 1880.
Would appreciate some help, but I think I may have to go to the Land Registry in Gloucester.
Thanks for your interest.
Best wishes
Ann
