How to search for bmd & Census of Scotland???
« on: Saturday 27 May 06 12:08 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace the family tree of my in-laws, and as far as I know, they came from Dunning in Scotland.
How do I find the bmd and census records from this place, as I can only find the records for England and wales.
The names I'm researching are Douglas and Hutton.
I've looked on Scotlands people website, to no avail.
I hope someone can help, my father-in-law is awaiting news of his family!!
I look forward to any replies.
Regards, Benn.

what dates are you looking for?

1841 -1901 census are available on Scotland's People Website and the Births Marriages and Deaths are also available.

Hi Sherlock,
The only definite date I have to work on, is a marriage date of 1942.
I have a possible birth year to go on of 1924, but thats more of a stab in the dark than a definite date.
I'll try again on Scotlands people, but I looked before and couldnt get anywhere.
Cheers, Benn.

Your problem is the info you are looking for is too recent. Scotland's people has only released births up to 1905, marriages up to 1930 and deaths up to 1955.

You can view the more recent data by visiting the Archive in Edinburgh in person ( or asking if any other Rootschatters who are going in to have a look for you)

Benn - I'll be going to Register House probably next Friday (the 16th) or the Friday following, if you want a lookup or two done.  Let me know if I can help.
