Hi there

The only additional info is:

* Sarah was noted as a widow (but the word was struck out)
* Thomas (age 10) was noted as an Ironstone Miner

Thanks Dave, just a thought ! because Dinah gives a William as her father when she marries later in life, I wondered that because the widow was struck out that maybe Sarah"s husband William ? is alive on the census nearby ?  Also do you have the 1851 census ? perhaps Sarah and William are together on that ? many thanks again.

Hi again

I think it's more likely that Sarah was indeed a widow and that William had died before 1841.  Sarah evidently told the census enumerator that she was a widow, but a clerk crossed this out later on because it was irrelevant information. (The objective was to record people's occupations, not their marital status.)

However, I'll see what the 1851 Census reveals.

Sorry - can't see Sarah in 1851.  Will try 1861.

No joy with 1861 either - it looks like Sarah died or remarried before 1851.

No problem Homeguard, :)

I tend to agree with Dave, I have tried looking for Sarah everywhere, after the 41 census, no luck, what makes me think she may have passed away before 51 is the returns for Wrockwardine,

Wrockwardine  wood
eccelesiastial  district    Holy Trinty

Bunters row,

Thomas    Clay     head    mar     22    coal miner   Wrockwardine,

Mary        Clay    wife       mar     20        Lilleshall.

( spelling is wrong ) but to much of a coincidence to overlook, If this the right thomas,? then you seem to have a connection with Lilleshall,

Happy hunting,
Pete :) :) :)
