Bowman Family
« on: Tuesday 30 May 06 20:16 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

I have learned that my gr-gr-gr grandfather, Thomas Bowman may have been born in Yorkshire (north riding) in c1793.  By 1831 he is in Canada.

He married Mary Betsy Glenton.  I'm not sure where.

I was wondering if anyone had informaton on Bowman's from this area or any other advice where I may find an exact location for Thomas.

Thanks,
Karen

Hi,  Can't help with Thomas, but William Bowman was a farmer in Elvington, Nr.York, farming 120 acres and employing 2 men. (Born in Sutton On Derwent)
In 1861 he was listed as aged 68
Wife Harriet aged 52
Son John aged 30 - Veterinary Surgeon
Daughter Mary aged 17
Daughter Emma aged 14
Son George aged 10
They are actually listed as Browman on the census, but are definitely Bowmans.
Hope this helps you.
