V.A.D.s
« on: Tuesday 30 May 06 20:57 BST (UK) »
Hi All
Can anyone please help
I am trying to find out more about a ggaunt who was a V.A.D. during WW1 she was Harriet Alice HOOK nee BAKER and lived at Gardners St. Herstmonceux.
The Red Cross and St. Johns say they have no records for her,but they tell me that the detachment No. for Herstmonceux was Sussex/58 and Hailsham was Sussex/100 which is only about 3 miles away. Also there was a Red Cross Hospital in Hailsham which was affiliated to Eastbourne Military Hospital.
Is it possible that being military Hospitals they have the records of staff?  any other ideas as too where I can look for this info.
Thank you for any help.

Hi
Welcome to the Sussex Board.
Have you looked at the A2A site to see if there are any hospital records on the East Sussex Record Office catalogue?   If you email Lewes they may be able to help.
