James Willsteed - Shorwell,IoW 1824

Hi . . . My first post  ???

I am trying to find the parents of James Willsteed (Willstead) B:1824. The 1841 census lists him age 17 at Haslett Farm Shorwell, Isle of Wight, working for Mark Morris - I cannot read the Trade. 
 
I believe his parents may be James (B:abt.1796) and Mary (B:abt.1798) Willstead (Willsteed) - they are listed at Shorwell with 7 (other) children.  Are they his parents ?
 
Also if they are his parents,  can you help with Mary's surname. ?

P.S.   Ancestry.co.uk lists James surname as Willetead !

Welcome to RootsChat.

I've drawn a blank on James baptism in 1824 at the moment. 

Can you give the names of the other children - it may help.

Willstead etc seems to be quite common on the Isle of Wight.  Have you been in touch with Dollycat, another RootsChatter.  She has been researching Bartons on IOW, one of whom married Mary Willsteed in 1788.  I may have found James senior's baptism in Chale.

I have been away for a few days. . .   

The only info I have for the (potential) parents and other children  is from the 1841 census -
James          1796   
Mary            1798

Elizabeth      1822
?                             << James 1824 ?? 
John             1826
Mark             1828
William          1830
Charles         1832
Jacob           1834
Jane             1837 ?             
 
 
James (1824) is my wifes Great Grandfather.

Nell - in addition to your info, I now have a copy of James and Ann Downers wedding cert.  This is enough to convince me that James and Mary were the parents.
