1841/51 Freayn - Morris Town, Devonport & origins of name?
« on: Sunday 04 June 06 05:31 BST (UK) »
Dear lookup requests

Can someone please look up Eleanor Freayn b ca 1830 Morristown, Devonport.

She married a widower; James Kellow: Stoke Damerel, Devon: June qtr 1857, ref 5b 499

(Freayn is an exceptionally rare surname there are only four entries under the name in whole of the free bmd indexes for England and Wales 1837 – 1984) Has anyone an idea of the origin of the name?

TIA,

Howdie

To answer the second part of my own question I looked on familysearch.org and got nothing so tried Frane and found them - normal spelling seems to have been Frayne! All around St Ive and adjacent parts of Devon.

Do you have her father's name and occupation from the marriage certificate? It would help the search as she is doing a good job of hiding unless she is the Elizabeth Frayne, sempstress, born Devonport in 1851 census.
