Lee family in Pebmarsh early 19th c.
« on: Monday 05 June 06 15:00 BST (UK) »
I wonder whether any Rootschatters have access to Pebmarsh PRs?

If so, I'd be most grateful for a maiden name for Mary who married James Lee in about 1808-1810.  (She was born abt 1788 Pebmarsh and their first child was born abt 1810, hence my guess at likely marriage date). Maiden name may or may not be Goddard (see list of children below).

Also, I'd be thrilled to have any details on baptisms of children of this couple.  Children I know of (there may be more) are as follows, all born Pebmarsh, and all dates approx.

Samuel Lee 1810
William Lee 1811
Mahala Lee 1818
Edmund Goddard Lee 1824
Robert Lee 1827
Frederick Lee 1829
Benjamin Lee 1831
James Lee 1839 (Mary would have been 51 in 1839, so James is either a very late child or a grandchild of this couple).

Many thanks

Anna

Essex RO ref: Pebmarsh D/P 207/1/7 M 1754-1812 fiche 1 of 1
James LEE otp sinle man and Mary GODDARD otp single woman married by banns 1 January 1807
Both signed register (in case of Mary her signature looks more like GIBBARD than GODDARD but maybe it was the shaky hand of a nervous bride :))
Witnesses William ELDRED
Emanuel ELDRED who both signed. They seemed to be frequent witnesses
Pebmarsh D/P 207/1/3 C, B 1783-1808 fiche 1 of 1. No LEE baptisms seen
Pebmarsh D/P 207/1/4 C 1799-1812 fiche 1 of 1
Mary d of James and Mary LEE born 6 Sep bap Oct 4 1807
Samuel s of James and Mary LEE born 2 Nov bap Dec 3 1809
William s of James and Mary LEE born 11 Nov bap Dec 29 1811

Some of the images are very poor. In view of your message there are probably others but no more time

Clincher, thank you very much *indeed* for this - it is extremely useful information.  It all makes perfect sense because:

 - the Goddard name was handed down as a middle name for a couple of generations
 - the witnesses William and Emanuel Eldred were the parish clerks from whom I am also descended.

Many thanks again for taking the time to do this lookup for me.

As mentioned the Eldreds were Parish Clerks. I am a direct descendant of Emmanuel Eldred. Pebmarsh is a place that I must visit x
