Missing Great Grandfather
« on: Friday 09 June 06 14:04 BST (UK) »
Hi
I had always known that my great grandfather died in Texas, and its thanks to him that my interest in my family tree began.  It was mentioned that no one would ever be able to find out anything about him after he left the country and there's nothing I like more than a challenge.
After much searching and thanks to the very generous help of a lady in Texas, I learned that he died in Goose Creek Texas and have a copy of his death certificate, newspapers clippings, and even the inventory of his possessions after he died.
However, for the last 2 years I have been trying to find out where he went to and what he did, between leaving England in 1912 and his death in 1932.
I know he left from Liverpool to New York on 18-6-1912 aboard the SS Caronia.  I also know that in 1917 he sent a postcard from Indianapolis.
I have requested census look ups in the past without any joy.
Can anyone help me or advise me how I can fill in the missing years.
His name was George Charles Hamilton, born 1878 in Kingston, Surrey.  I do know he never re-married (he had abandoned his wife in England) and he was a Plumber by trade.

Sorry for the length of this post but I'm hoping someone may be able to help.

SINCE ADDING THIS POST, I HAVE HAD SOME FANTASTIC HELP FROM ANNIE AND SUSAN AND NOW HAVE A COPY OF THE WW1 DRAFT CARD - THANKS TO YOU BOTH.

I NOW BELIEVE THAT GEORGE MAY HAVE BEEN IN MISSOURI IN 1920.  CAN ANYONE CHECK THIS FOR ME?

There is a George born England (c1873) in Missouri. He was naturalized in 1895. With these two dates differing from the info you posted, it is probably not him.

There is a George born England (c1878) in Terre Haute, coal miner.
