Hi Pam,
Many thanks for looking - what you found sure has thrown a spanner in the works!
My gg grandmother was Mary Ann Cook. According to the 1881 census she was born ca 1822 Leven Dunbarton (but then again the female members of my family often lied about their age). According to her death certificate she was born ca 1831, father John Cook, mother Margaret McQuat (or McWatt in later generations), both deceased in 1908. (She did have her last child in 1867 which suggest a later rather than earlier birthdate.)
When I found a birth in the IGI for Robert Cook, 1829 Low Paisley Renfrew, father John Cook, mother Margaret McWatt, I thought I'd found her elder brother. (Another son John was born 1842, same place, same parents). What are the odds of their being two couples with the same names!!
The family you found in Neilston fits pretty well, except they were born in Ireland! The family in Paisley High also sort of fits, if you assume the children are living with their grandmother.
Would you mind checking to see if there's a Mary (Ann) Cook born in (Leven) Dunbarton between 1821 and 1832? Just in case I'm completely barking up the wrong tree ;-)
Many thanks
Jan
