Can someone please tell me when the second world war was over and the soldiers came home did they have to go to a certain town village etc to be demobbed or did it actually depend on where they lived.

my understanding is that there were demobilisation centres in various parts of the country and soldiers were sent to the nearest to their home town

this isn't gospel ;)

I have to agree.

I have a copy of my grandfathers service record for WW2. In the bundle of papers I received was a copy of his Notification of release. It stated that he was released on the 30th April, 1946 by the Millitary Disperal unit in York (he was from Hull).

It also states that he will not attempt to gain repatriation anywhere but the UK!!

Just for interest

My late father and his brothers (all different regiments) were demobbed at Holcombe Devon and they came and still live in Gloucestershire
