Military Records WW1
« on: Monday 12 June 06 09:53 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any records to do with the army in England.  I want to find out what I can about my maternal grand parents.  Gfather served in france and was sarg/sarg-major.  I know he was in france at the battle on the Somme but nothing more. how do I go about finding more information?

My Grandmother served in England and France as an army nurse as well and I don't know how to find her details either.

Can anyone help me Please

Much appreciated

Hi Ngiyali

Welcome to Rootschat

Would you like to post their names and anything else you know about them ie. ages/birthplaces/residences etc. - it might help somebody to try and find something for you.

Did your grandfather survivie the war ???

In the meantime, you might like to look here for some WAAC records http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/waac.asp

and the WW1 army medal rolls http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/medals.asp

Thanks, sorry I forgot to do that.  This is my first time on this site and I wasn't sure how to write it.

My grandfather's name was Abraham Thomas Tucker, known as Tommy. DOB 1894, born Birmingham, Worcestershire, England.  He was a younger son of an undertaker, I think.

My grandmothers name was Diane Lassie Tucker nee David.  DOB  15/05/1895  Born Leicester, Leicestershire, England.

We really don't have much information at my level of the family.  The uncles and Aunts can't or won't share anymore than what I have here.  Sorry not much to go on really.

I know they served in the army as we always saw the photos of them in uniform at their house.  It was hangup in pride of place with my oldest uncle who died in WW11.

they migrant to Australia separately but met on the boat and were married in Melbourne when they arrived in March 1922.  I have a copy of their marriage certificate to prove that.  It is just what came before that the blanks start appearing.

Thanks for your help.

Cathrine

Hi Cathrine

There is a service record for a Diane Lassy David http://www.rootschat.com/links/0k3/ -  the date of birth is a bit out :-\

What do you think - it's a pretty unusual name ???

It will cost you £3.50 (English Pounds) to download it online

Thank you thank you thank you.

I just tried to find them both on that website you gave me but couldn't get anywhere.  Yes that is her, some of the dates do vary depending on which record/person we speak to.  but yes that is her.

Sorry if I gushing a bit but I have been looking for her in many place and only in the last few days have I had any success with not just this branch of the family but 2 other areas as well.

So I will just say thanks again and I'll be gettting that record as soon as possible.

born Birmingham, Worcestershire, England.
Cathrine

Hi Cathrine and a Warm Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

I'm finding it difficult to locate Abraham on the 1901 census, but Birmingham is in Warwickshire, not Worcestershire  ;)

Do you have his fathers name on the wedding certificate?

Wendi  :)
