1861 census for Ontario - Look up
« on: Tuesday 13 June 06 04:40 BST (UK) »
Hello:
could some one check on the 1861 census for a James Milne.
Just starting the research on James Milne.  Thanks to Karen on rootschat have his marriage in Ontario.

Information from Marriage
married  2 March  1862
Residence     East   Whitby

I think he should show up on the 1861 census.  James Milne was born in Old Deer, Aberdeen.

Age at time of marriage in 1862 is 34 years.

Any help would be appreciated as trying to find out when he came to Canada.

Have just found him on the 1881 census in Manitoba but all his children were born in Ontario.

Cheers
Anne

Found them in 1911 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.  Looks like Flora gives her immigration year as 1852, but it's hard to read, really thick ink.

James, Thomas and Robert together with a nephew Basil are there.

Hello Karen:

Thank you very much for finding this information for me.  Iwill check out the web site you have listed... This is a good start to researching this family... I really appreciate it.

Will be going to the family history center hopefully this Thursday. It is an hour and half drive away.

Don't think the death of the James Milne in Ontario is the right one as according to the information I have from family is that he died in 1908 in Mekiwin, Manitoba.

But I will keep that information as it could be a relative.  You never know.

Thanks again.

Cheers
Anne
