Hi again Kez,
Think the only way to find out who grandad Woodward was would be to get marriage cert for Thomas and Freda....registered in Pontypridd july qtr 1933 is marriage of Thomas J Woodward to Freda Jones vol 11a page 1594.

There are a few Woodwards on 1901 census in Glamorgan/Pontypridd and a few of those are from Somerset.
I'd get cert to find grandfathers' name.

Thanks for your help! I will do that! My in-laws are driving me nuts, I'm even getting letters from their relatives in Austalia saying they are related to him! I can't see what big a deal it is but because they know I'm doing a family tree this is all they keep on about - I wouldn't mind if it was someone like Brad Pitt - but hey there we go!

Well I've had a look at the ages and the person that could be his grandad was born on 1889 so that could work out with his parents being married in 1933.

A little bit more which may help if you can get age or date of birth or etc. from death/burial records or even an obituary ............

And the mother, Freda, died in 2003 aged 88, so would say her birth1914/5.

I have just been in touch with the friends of the family (lovely people - hello Steve!)

Unfortunately, their knowledge of the WOODWARD side is not much. 

I can fill you in on the details of the JONES side, but that doesn't get you very far.

It would seem that purchasing the marriage cert of Freda JONES and Thomas WOODWARD might be a good idea.

Other than that, writing to the famous man himself might work??

I will keep thinking!

Ok, thanks for your help!

I did email a couple of his fan clubs, but they don't seem to know the Woodward history either and I can't find anything anywhere on Tom's paternal grandfather. Guess I will have to order that cert, but even then it may be the right name but still can't 100% prove it's him!!!

Hi Kez_s,

I am also in the same boat and trying to trace backwards.  His grandfather's name was James Woodward who according to the 1911 Census was aged 42 so that would make him born in 1969.  His place of birth in this census was Snowshill, Gloucestershire and his occupation was ironmonger's haulier.

If I found out more information I will let you know.
