lost relative!!
« on: Friday 16 June 06 18:04 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone I'm new to this site so please be patient.

I seem to have lost my great grandmother - well not really just dont' know when or where she died.
Her name was Mary Ann Davies and she had a shop in Leinster St Birkenhead. Later she seemd to have one in Munster St B'head but then disappeared. The second address was her son's + the shop was in his name. In 1927 he moved to Hoblyn Road Birkenhead but I lose track of Mary Ann then.
Mary Ann was born as M. A. Sharp in Birkenhead in 1858 + married Liverpool 1874 then they lived in B'head where her husband died in 1910.

If anyone as any ideas what to do next I'd be grateful as I have exhausted all possibilities that I know. ???

Thanks for looking,
Harpist.

Hi Harpist & welcome!

Could you tell us where you have already checked so that we don't duplicate what you've already done?

First thing that comes to mind is where is her husband buried?  Maybe there is a stone and she is buried in the same place.

Hi Jean,

thank you for replying.
Mary Ann's husband Charles Davies is buried in Flaybrick cemetery in Birkenhead along with other family members but she isn't with them. The Cheshire BMD doesn't show anything nor does Free BMD. Birkenhead Reference Library have a complete list of deaths in the area up to 1950 but couldn't do a search for me as they said there wasn't enough information.
The problem is that I can't go myself as I'm too far away.
I have contacted the library again to see if they can do a search of the electoral roll for the 1920's but am waiting for a reply.
I know that she doesn't appear in Leinster or Munster Streets after 1920 but don't know where she went.
Apparently there is no death record for her between 1917 + 1920 in Flaybrick cemetery.
Before my mother died she used to tell me about Mary Ann so she must have been alive after 1920 for her to have a memory of her.
I don't know what else to say.

Regards,
Harpist.

Hi Harpist,

I've had a look on the NBI (National Burial Index) and can't see anything for Mary Ann.  The only thing I can suggest (unless someone local to the area picks this up) is that you try looking through the full images that are available free on ancestry.co.uk now.  If you go to www.ancestry.co.uk and select "England & Wales BMD Index" then "Search the complete images - Search the Death index images" -  you can search through quarter by quarter - time consuming but it may give you a lead.

Hope this is of some help,

Jean
