Patterson-Ford
« on: Friday 16 June 06 21:47 BST (UK) »
HELP! I'm trying to find a record of my grandmother. Her name was Jane Patterson-Ford, born in Fifeshire 1871 - Married Matthew Porter pre 1901 and lived at Buckingham Palace Mews until around 1915, then Rodbourne, Wiltshire. Died July 1941 and is buried in Box (Wilts), but I can't find any record of her before her marriage. Would love to hear from anyone who can help.

She seems to have been in Surrey somewhere in 1891.

I can find a Jane Ford and a Jane Foord in Fife in 1881, but with no idea of any further details (?father's name or occupation perhaps) I would not like to assune that either of them is your grandmother.

Thank you very much for that info. My grandmother may well have been in Surrey at some time. I don't have any further info on her - parents names etc.. - this is what I'd like to find out. I believe that the scottish traditionally gave their children the mothers maiden name followed by the married name, so my grandmother may have been known as Ford. Anyway, thanks again for the info

Thanks - I have found her on the 1901 census, by which time she has married and her name becomes Porter.

Hi Lizzyboo,

There is a birth in the IGI of:
Jane Paterson Ford, born 04 October, 1870, Torryburn, Fife,  to parents
Thomas Ford and Jane Gordon.

If this is the Jane you are looking for, you should be able to get her birth certificate at ScotlandsPeople.

Regards,
Dorothy
