Llanberis Cemeteries
« on: Monday 19 June 06 20:48 BST (UK) »
Would anyone know how many cemeteries there are for Llanberis?

Have considered purchasing the MI's for Nant Peris but would they be in Welsh?

Still chasing down my Morris, Jones and now added Williams/Humphrey to the list.

Can't even find a decent website on the village - any pointers gratefully received, am now on the verge of taking a little trip to have a look for myself - the families were at Coed Mawr for forty odd years so there has to be some trace of them!

Thanks for your time.

A totally fed up  Angie :'(

Hi Jacko-To
There are no cemeteries in Llanberis that I'm aware of there are two in Nant Peris i believe Cwm-Y-Glo and Llanrug also have cemeteries. As you say there ain't a decent website for any of these village they tend to be directed at the tourist market. I have copies of old censuses for Llanberis (will need to look them out) what names are you researching and I'll have a look for you

Hi Angie,

as the PRs are compiled by the Anglican Church (disestablishment didn't occur until about 1920), all the PRs will be written in English.

Memorial inscriptions on the other hand will most likely be written in Welsh. There are a couple of good sites that help with so-called "Graveyard Welsh", where you will find translations of the usual phrases found on headstones.

Once you find your man (or woman), simply post the text on this board - there are enough Welsh speakers here to help you.

Hi Jacko-to, sorry to comment on such an old thread...

In January I uploaded photos of all the headstones in the newer part of Mynwent Nant Peris to Billiongraves. You may want to have a browse through them and perhaps help transcribe to help with indexing. I may get around to the older half next time I'm up north.

Hope this helps
