I can tell you that it is in the Imperial war museum next to a george cross of Fred' Yoe-Thomas. the tale of Yoe Thomas is quite something, he must have been one hell of a strong character. Unfortunately I don't know the relevence of Hubbles chess set.

That link was very enlightening. As you said Wing Commander Yeo Thomas was indeeed a superman. born of a humble coal merchant. And at last I know the significance of the chess set - I bet that one saw some interesting games.

Denn,on going thru my attic of long unused info;the derivation of Plonk seem's to have been from the mispronunciation of Blanc',Blong'.
The spiked helmet was also known as a pickle spike by WW1 troop's.
