Hi Sue,

We'll probably have to find William by tracing Charles back. When and where was Charles born according to the 1881 census?

OK, thanks to your other thread, I have found them in 1881:
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?ti=5538&r=5538&db=uki1881&F16=2926462&rank=0

Charles Brookes, 27, Carpenter, b. Worcester Worcester

1891 has him born at Worcester as well.

I can't see him in 1871 so far but I'm not giving up...

I'm really struggling ... can't find him in 1861 or 1871!! Anybody able to help? :P

Hi Tati,

On 1881 census Charles Brooks was 30 years old. Born Worc/wolverhampton and was a Horse driver/ Carter They lived at Babylon. Amblecote Staffs

I am not really sure which shire to put these requests in.  Sometimes it's Worcestershire, others it is Staffordshire.

many thanks for all your help.
Sue

Oops - so he's not the same one as the one you are researching on the Worcestershire board, living in Brierley Hill?  ???

On the link I sent you, there are Cartwright family members  ???

Gets confusing, this genealogy !!!  Yes he is the same one .  Charles Brooks(no E)  he lived some of his married life in Amblecote, and some in Brierley hill, about five minutes up the road... he also lived at Delph lane brierley Hill. in 1891.

Sue,

Don't you have the feeling there's something wrong here?
Could the one who married Elizabeth Cartwright be the one I sent you the link for, and the Horse driver another Charles Brook*s? I wouldn't pay too much attention to the spelling of Brookes.

What is your starting point? Are you working backwards or forwards?

Hi there T,

My Grandfather George Brook*s had
William Charles
John Henry
Charles
Thomas
Emma

as his siblings.  I worked backwards from my Dad.
There parents of course were Charles and Elizabeth. There was also an Elizabeth Amy Cartwright listed on one census's as Charles's Step Daughter

Does this help in anyway.?

Regards and Many thanks.  Sue

I wish  :P

So I take it you have them in 1891 and 1901 and you know for sure that your Elizabeth was a Cartwright. What's Charles's birthplace/age according to 1891 and 1901?
I can't see a match for a Charles Brook*s b. ca. 1850 Wolverhampton on previous census records but am very willing to search according to the criteria you will be able to provide.
