Margaret Lindsay

Can anyone find a marriage for Margaret Lindsay born approx 1777 to James Gibson born approx 1777 and married aprox 1797 in Scotland, I presume Dumfries.  Margaret was the daughter of William Lindsay and Janet (nee Robertson).  I also would like to know if they had a family.

I've checked the SP site and there is no marriage around that time +/- 3 yrears. There's a marriage in Dundee 1795 but different names - Elspeth and Robert.

Children would be a pretty laborious task. Your best bet is to get the batch numbers for Dumfries parishes and search for Gibson with parent's names (or just father's) for each batch.

How did you get the approx date of marriage?

From IGI, this is Margaret Lindsay's christening details and that of 3 other sisters. These entries are actual extracts from the OPRs. Margaret's mother's name is coming up as Robson. There may be more, it would be worthwhile checking with the batch number for Lochmaben to see whether any entries show up for example with just the father's name:

1. AGNES LINDSAY  Christening: 12 FEB 1769 Lochmaben, Dumfries, Scotland
2. NICHOLAS LINDSAY Female Christening: 18 MAY 1776 Lochmaben, Dumfries, Scotland
3. JANET LINDSAY Christening: 30 JAN 1775 Lochmaben, Dumfries, Scotland
4. MARGARET LINDSAY Christening: 20 SEP 1777 Lochmaben, Dumfries, Scotland

I can't see a marriage on IGI showing for Margaret and James Gibson, there are however a number of entries showing for children with those parents in Lanark:

1. JEAN GIBSON  Birth: 08 FEB 1802 Crawford, Lanark, Scotland
2. GRIZEL GIBSON Birth: 30 AUG 1793 Christening: 01 SEP 1793 Leadhills, Lanark, Scotland
3. WILLIAM GIBSON Birth: 17 SEP 1797 Crawford, Lanark, Scotland
4. ROBERT GIBSON Birth: 08 FEB 1802 Christening: 08 FEB 1802 Leadhills, Lanark, Scotland
5. MARGRET GIBSON Birth: 25 OCT 1803 Christening: 28 OCT 1803 Crawford, Lanark, Scotland
   
There are a number of multiple entries for their children which are a mixture of actual extracts from the OPRs and submitted entries (which would need to be verified.
