1841 census - piece and district numbers
« on: Monday 26 June 06 14:17 BST (UK) »
I'm attempting to use the search facility on the Genealogist.co.uk Derbyshire 1841 index site to track down Walkers in Tideswell.

I can't say that I find it particularly simple to use and I wonder if  SKS could help confirm a couple of deductions please?

1) Is Tideswell in High Peake in 1841?
2) Is there a listing of the pieces in 1841? Based on the folio references given on the site ie HO107/0187/F? it seems to me that ../0187/.. is Tidewell but it would be good if someone could confirm this.

Think I might have to invest in a set of CDs - it might be easier!

Many thanks

Pete

Yep - use the National Archive site to match PIECE numbers in each Census year.

You need HO107 1841/51 and the RG prefixes after that.

HO 107/187 PARISH: Tideswell, TOWNSHIP: Litton, Tideswell, Whetstone or Whestone, Wormhill HAMLET: Wardlow Mires (part) 1841

HO 107/2150 Registration District: 449. BAKEWELL Registration Sub-District: 3 Tideswell ff.330-End Parish: Bakewell (part) Hamlet: Blackwell 1851

There are 72 people with that surname in that PIECE in 1841 - who are you looking for ?

Thanks NecroMancer and Janan for the prompt replies.

I will look at the NA site with interest.

I am not looking for anyone in particular as I think I have the family back to the late 1790s mainly through PRs.

I thought I'd look to see if there was anyone missing and have for example come up with a possible unknown (to me) Lucy 1- daughter of Joseph 25 and Mary 20 sister to Hannah 3. Joseph is my 2nd GGF.

Thanks again

Pete
