Look up please 1891 census(Completed with Thanks)
« on: Tuesday 27 June 06 03:07 BST (UK) »
Could some kind person see if

a John Thomas Wall (or FrankWall) is on the 1891 Census.

l have the family on the 1881 for London with no father only shows Mary Ann Wall as wife married.

Children are Ada, Robert, Edith Arthur and John Thos all born Marylebone. l have found a Mary Ann Wall death 1881 age 41 which could be the right one and l think that a family member might have taken in the children. l have also search LDS but cannot find anything on the marriage so have no idea who the father could be, tried using the childrens name but nothing ties in. John Thomas was in the Navy and used the name Frank.

Many thanks

Hi Jean,

There is a marriage in Marylebone for a John Thomas Wall in 1860 March Qtr : reference 1a 649.   This may well be your John.  Obviously it doesnt say who he was married to as the earlier records dont give that information unfortunately. but you could ask for the certificate to see who it is.

Have you found the family on earlier censuses?  It could be that you are missing some earlier children who would perhaps give you more clues.

If you havent got John Thomas's service papers, maybe you could obtain them as these would also give you more details of where he was living and possibly his mother and father.
This web site might help you with who to contact:

http://www.royal-naval-association.co.uk/rna21.html

Or perhaps you could order one of the children's birth certificates which would hopefully give their father's name.  i.e. Ada Wells, Westminster St. Marylebone, Sept Qtr 1869, 1a 340.

Hope a little bit of this helps you.

Kind regards
Hoppity  :)

Hi Casalguidi,

l have only the other day discovered Frank on the National Archives site and there was 2 reference and numbers for details of him. As l have just purchased a heap of my relies certs l will have to wait a few weeks. Biker could only find them on the 1881 census with no father and as it seems Mary Ann (mother) could possibly have died l thought perhaps some relies would have taken them in. According to my mother in law who is 93  said that there was some family in Kent, Franks son  and daughter was born there, it was Franks obit and Navy Ref that said he was born Marylebone.

Hi Hoppity,

Many thanks for your reply. Robert was born abt 1865 so the marriage could tie in. This is one of the hardest families l have traced so far. My mother in law said the family was a mystery and that my father in law knew really nothing on them seems abit like a black hole wether its a scandal or who knows? Your ref to Ada could be the one as the 1881 census says born abt 1870. This family is driving me nuts.

Will try the site you gave me and see what turns up.

my thanks

Hi Casalguidi,

Yes have made progress thank you, you helped last year with Frank's son David baptism recorded twice Westcott & Wall funny l sent last week for David's cert last week supposed to be despatched today to Australia. Nobody found a Marriage Cert for Frank Wall and Fanny Chatfield so feel they did not marry did not want to upset  mother in law as she's nearly 94 so have secretly sent for it myself. Hopefully should solve the mystery.

kindest regards

Jean
