COMPLETED Maulden parish register lookup - Daniels
« on: Wednesday 28 June 06 21:49 BST (UK) »
I'd be very grateful if someone with access to Maulden PR transcript could check two marriages:

17 Jan 1798 Joseph Daniels/Phoebe Carter
26 Dec 1802 Thomas Danniels/Susan Fann

I know from the 1851 that Joseph was from Southill, but Thomas died pre census. I'm hoping that they were brothers and wonder if the transcript mentions a parish of residence (I may need to check the microfilm to see who the respective witnesses were if both were otp)

To compound my problem the Daniels in Southill joined the baptist church at around the time Thomas would have been born, so there are no baptisms - Joseph was the last in 1776

Thanks in advance

David

I do not have the Maulden PR but I have the Southill Baptist Church book..

Thomas DANIELs of Haynes [later of Chicksands], yeoman, was a trustee of the church in 1805 & 1847... he cant be yours though?

There is also a Mathew DANIELs of Henlow, yeoman, who was a trustee in 1803 & 1805 and ...John DANIELs of Henlow, yeoman was received into the Southill Church 1768 ...[adult baptism 1776] he was a trustee in 1803 & 1805

I cant see a mention of Joseph at all.. I think the best way to get on would be to e mail the archivist & see if she has any Wills for DANIELs of Haynes, Henlow or Southill as I suspet one of these men would be the father of one or both of your guys?

Hello David

According to Maulden PR, the marriage Thomas Daniels to Susan Fann - has it that he's from Shillington.  Looking at Shilllington PR the only Daniel name mentioned is a burial of William Daniel 22 MAY 1774.

Also noticed in Maulden PR the christening of a Fanny Fann  (how cruel !) illegitimate daughter of Susan Fann 27/JAN/1802

.....also noticed in Southill PR chr of Joseph Daniel on 1/DEC/1776 son of James & Ann Daniel (labourer) - you said he was the last one as the family had gone baptist.  However there are chr of Elizabeth 18/SEP/1796; James 9/MAR/1800; Mary 5/DEC/1802; Wllliam 28/OCT/1804; Charlotte 25/DEC/1806 - all to James & Ann Daniel.

Staying in Southill, there is marriage of James Daniel to Ann Myles on 8/NOV/1768.
A burial of Ann Daniel on 23/JUN/1793 followed by burial of Eliz Daniel 22/JUL/1793
After that we get another marriage of James Daniel (widower) to Ann Sarl on 12/OCT/1795

Is this your family ? - or have I just given you superfluous information.

Regards John

Hi John and Cathy

Apologies for the delay in thanking you both. French internet failure, and I'm stuck in an internet cafe at the moment;

Thanks for the wills suggestion Cathy - that was going to be ,my next step. I've got the Southill Church Book transcript, from which it's fairly apparent that the Daniel family was big in the baptist church, which hs made life interesting trying to reconstruct the family

The Shillington angle is an unwelcome diversion John! But you do have the right James whose first wife was Ann Myles and the second was Ann Sarl. Until I bought Southill PR transcript a few years ago the two Anns had me stumped as he had children by both. James and Ann1 were my 3/4 x g grandparents.

Thanks to you both

David
