Rumble of West Lavington or Idmiston - Lookup/Help/Advice

I have traced my Rumble ancestors in West Lavington back to JOHN RUMBELL who appears to be the first Rumble in West Lavingtion. He married ELIZABETH HERSEY on 15 June 1749 (daughter of William Hersey and Alice)

The only JOHN RUMBELL I can find on the IGI is JOHN RUMBOLL Chrs 8 Oct 1732 Idmiston, parents BENJAMIN RUMBOLL and MARY.   
Also there is a BENJAMIN RUMBOLD chr 17 July 1748 Idmiston, parents BENJAMIN RUMBOLD & MARY.  So Rumbold and variants are all possible spellings.

Can anyone check this out in the Idmiston Parish Records, to see if John's birth date or any other info is recorded?

Or suggest any other ways in which I can check out if this is the right person?

I guess parish records are about as good as you can get.

Where did John Rumboll and Elizabeth Hersey marry?
I'll check it out in a few days.

Thanks. They married West Lavington. I guess she must have been from West Lav, as it's usual to marry in the bride's parish.

The Idmiston Parish Register has been extracted for baptisms and marriages into the IGI by LDS.   It gives 32 baptisms for the various spellings of Rumboll for dates from 1580 to 1790.   The main failing of the LDS I have observed is that of omission.

The transcript I have was published by WFHS and, in my experience, their publications are 100% checked and 100% correct.

It is no surprise that the IGI dates you give are confirmed by the transcripts I hold.   However, if you want to be absolutely sure, you should borrow a film of the register at the Family History Centre of your local LDS church.

Hi Julie
In the West Lavington Parish Records the marriage of John RUMBOLL and Elizabeth Hersey was 15 June 1749  as you said.   There were also a number of baptisms 1720 to 40, of chidren of William and Rachel Rumbold.

In Idmiston various baptisms of children of Roger and Margaret Rumbol 1730 - 40
Also baptism 17 July 1748 Benjamin, son of Benjamin and Mary Rumbold.

Thankyou.  I'd seen some of the Idmiston Rumbles on the IGI but hadn't found any earlier than John and elizabeth marrying in West Lav. 1749.
 Were the only baptisms name of Rumbold those of william and Rachel?
