Ambly that is absolutely fabulous thankyou so much for it. I just wonder if he stayed in the US after his return again in 1924 or if he went to Canada...anyhow, bless you for your fine efforts both you and Genealiza.

Hi Mark again!

And this, I beleive is Mary Elizabeth ADDEY his wife, in the 2 relevant UK Census before they married:

1891 - Blackburn Lancashire
Ecclesiastical parish: Holy Trinity
Ref: : RG12/3395 , Folio: 66,  Page: 33
35 Hannah Street
Head: Seth ADDEY age 40, Tailor, b Pontefract, Yorkshire
Wife: Catherine ADDEY, age 34, Can Breaker?(smudged), b Prescott Lanc.
Son: Edward ADDEY age 15, Can Breaker, b Prescott, Lanc.
Son: John ADDEY age 8, Scholar, b Blackburn Lanc.
Dau: Mary Elizabeth ADDEY age 5, Schoalr, b Blackburn.
Boarder: John MACK, marr, age 52, Tailor, b Manchester, Lanc.

Note: Edward must be the brother-in-law, referenced by Cornelius in the 1912 Ship Manifest.

1901 - Blackburn Lancashire
12 Myrtle Street
Ecclesiastical parish: Blackburn St John
Ref:  RG13/3906 , Folio:155 , Page : 21
Head: Seth ADDEY age 53, Tailor (worker), b Hansworth Yorkshire
Wife: Catherine ADDEY age 43, b Prescot, Lanc
Dau: Mary Eliz'h ADDEY age 15, Cotton Weaver (worker) b Blackburn Lanc.
Dau: Catherine ADDEY age 9, Scholar, b Blackburn Lanc.

Note: Myrtle Street is the same street Cornelius gave as his UK address of his Mother in law in 1913 - different house Nr though, but that was common, to shift houses in same street.....

Cheers

I'm sorry, I still can't find any hint of them.  If you think they went to Canada, maybe you should post a query on that board.  According to the census listings on Ancestry, they only have up to 1911--but that is with the World subscription and I don't have that one.  I'll keep looking for the name and let you know if I find anything.   ----Genealiza

Hi again ;D

Well, after going to US together for the first time in Oct 1912, they must have both returned to the UK. Cornelius alone then went back again to US Sep 1913.

Now  - below - we have Mary alone  going back to the US in Jan 1914 to join Cornelius there. They must have again both returned to the UK, because in Jan 1923 Mary heads back to the US intending to Permanently settle,  leaving Cornelius presently in Blackburn.....

1914 - Arrived Boston 21 Jan 1914
Ship "SS Victorian" having departed Liverpool
Saloon Cabin & Steerage - Aliens
Manifest line 6
Mrs Mary MAHER age 28yrs & 4mths, Occupation; Wife
Nationality & Race English
Last Permanent Address: Blackburn England.
Address of contact in UK: Mrs C. ADDEY, 3 Myrtle Street, Blackburn
Final Destination: New Bedford Mass.
Her husband paid for ticket &  she has $25.
She has been in the US before in 1912 & 1913 to New Bedford.
She is going to join: Husband Mr Cornelius MAHER, 20 Roosevelt St, New Bedford Mass.
She has apparently shrunk, died her hair, gotten a suntan and is trying out prototype contact lens because now she is described as:
5'2" with dark hair & complexion with Brown eyes - bit of a worry!
!

1923 - Arrived Boston 6 May 1923
Ship "SS Laconia" having departed Liverpool
2nd Class Cabin -Aliens
Manifest line 1
Mary MAHER age 37, Occupation Weaver
Nationality & Race British
Last Permanent Address: Blackburn England.
Address of contact in UK: Husband Cornelius MAHER, 2a Trinity St Blackburn
Final Destination: New Bedford Mass.
She paid for her own ticket and has $100.
She was last in states in 1911-1915 to New Bedford
She is going to: Friend Ann ATKINSON 6 McQuirk St New Bedford.
She is still shrinking - now she's 5'1" witha Fresh Complexion, brown hair & Brown eyes.
Born : Blackburn England.
She states she is entering as a "Permanent".

Now - this 1923 manifest is typewritten, but against Mary's entry are handwritten comments which I believe have been entered later, some of it perhaps 2 yrs later, as part of granting Residence.
Part says: "Defective vision  improvement, glasses"
Part says (I can't read it very faint and has been over stamped in part, but my best attempt: is:
"All claimed? on Eng-----ment of -----? ---isa? Card #5309"
This is accompanied by a stamp saying LEGAL ENTRY FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE VERIFIED and a date stamp JUL 1, 1925, this is initialled also I think and that initialling partly overwrites the text I can't quite read above (though, the card number is very clear).

Can someone put me out of my misery - I can't see the 1924 arrival......?
I know you both have it, but I just can't see it...!

Cheers
