James LOVEGROVE census look up 1841 - 1871
« on: Friday 07 July 06 07:08 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to confirm information that I have on my family with the census.

I am looking for a James LOVEGROVE b.1825 in Devon or usually he puts down Henley on Thames.

On the 1861 and 1871 census, James should be in Adwell Square in Henley on Thames with his wife Emma. Could some kind person please check if this is correct.

I am trying to trace James in the 1841 / 1851 census. He married in 1852, so I am hoping that he is home with his parents William (b.1782) and Mary LOVEGROVE (b.1784) and his younger sister Ann (b.1831). Ann married in 1851 to James RICHARDSON - a shoemaker after the 1851 census.

James LOVEGROVE gives his occupation as a labourer or a timberman/ timber dealer.

If it is possible to find James RICHARDSON and Emma EMERY (b.1831) on the 1851 census I would be most grateful as then I may find their parents.

Many thanks in advance
Helen

There are 2 possible James in 1851, both visiting somewhere.
This should be his parents in 1851:
HO107/1725 107 8
West Street Reform? Court?

William Lovegrove, head, 71, Labourer, b. Grays
Mary, wife, 69, b. Devon Chadford
James Richardson, lodger, unm, 21, Cordwainer, b. Mddx Eling?

Oops - did you say you already had the 1851 entry for James?  :P

In 1851, Ann is a servant at Henley High Street. Head of household is John Lockey, 73, Fundholder.

I can't see Emma  ???

Hi Tanja

Many thanks for all the look ups. They are a great help.

If possible could you give me the 2 possible James LOVEGROVE on the 1851 census especially if they are in Berkshire or Buckinghamshire.

Also does he give his birth place always Chagford / Chadford in Devon because family tales say he was born in both Devon and Henley. I think that he was born in Devon and as a baby the family shifted to Henley. You giving the 1841 census helps to confirm this.

Thanks for the 1851 census for James RICHARDSON. It looks like he was living with his future in laws.

Finally to help narrow down James LOVEGROVE's parents William and Mary's death, can you check the 1861 census for William and Mary LOVEGROVE. It is possible that the William LOVEGROVE with James in 1861 census is his father but there are many William LOVEGROVEs.

I am most grateful for your help and many appreciated thanks
Helen

I can't see a better match for father William than the one above.

1851
HO107/1720 280 16
Little Missenden, Bucks
Holmer Green
Penelope Hazel, head, wid, 45, Lace Maker, Little Missenden
Elizabeth, dau, 16?, Lace maker, b. do.
James Lovegrove, visitor, unm, 22, Labourer in Sawying Wood, b. Oxon Henley
George Broker, lodger, mar, 63, Sawyer, b. Oxon Peper?

There is another James Lovegrove age 24 (born Oxford) visiting at Oxford St Giles but he's a shoemaker - not too likely.

Hi Tanja

Many thanks for the prompt look up. Thank you for the 1851 look up because I suspected that James went to Buckinghamshire regularly and his daughter married a carpenter from Buckinghamshire.

Thank you for the addresses because the family houses seem to be on West Street/ West Hill and Adwell Square.

Once again many thanks for all your great help.
Helen
