I wonder if this is the family in 1841 ? Are you confident on William Jnr's birth year as being c. 1842?:

BUIST William age 40   Shal Manufacturer b. Ayrshire            
BUIST Margret   age 40 b. Ayrshire            
BUIST Agnes age 7 b. Ayrshire            
BUIST Jean age 9 b. Ayrshire            
BUIST William age 2 b. Ayrshire
