Hi,
I had a look at the trade directories in the library at Stockport. 1792- 1845. I couldn't see any more entries for William Peers apart from the one that you already have. Do you have anymore info about him?

Hi Skipworth,
I'm not sure if there were any local newspapers at that time, if there were a fire might have been newsworthy.
I'll have a look next time I'm in the library.

Pat I did a search on newspapers available - no local ones available for the time frame - only the Manchester Mercury 1752-1830

I looked at the holdings of the Stockport archives and came up with the same thing. It seems that the "Mercury" is on film so I will have a look at it on Saturday when I'm at the library.

Hi Skipworth,
I managed to read through the years 1798-1800 of the Manchester Mercury. There was some coverage of Stockport but I didn't spot anything about a fire.
I'm going to read through a couple of later years next time, because apart from anything else, I was totally fascinated by some of the stories in this newpaper and the way they were reported,who knows perhaps something will turn up for your William. I'll let you know if I come across anything.
