Barns and Brightmore families
« on: Monday 17 July 06 02:24 BST (UK) »
Has anyone any information on Sarah Barnes  who married a Charles Brightmore in Pentrich on 25 October 1818?  I am trying to trace both the Barns and Brightmore families.

It is possible that Sarah Barnes' parents were George Barns and Mary Whissall (Whizzall) who married in Pentrich on 14 July 1792.

Charles Brightmore and Sarah later moved to Ripley where they and their children can be found on the 1841 and 1851 censuses for Ripley.

Thanks, marp

Thank you for your reply.  I found out more about the Brightmore and Barnes connection after I posted my query on Rootschat. Contrary to my previous belief,  I have no direct ancestral connection with Sarah Brightmore, my connection is to the first wife of Joseph Cresswell that is Eleanor (Ellen) Hunt.

Joseph Cresswell (born Denby December 1820) married Sarah Brightmore (born 10 June 1823).  They were married on 7 March 1852 at Codnor and Loscoe.   Sarah was Joseph Cresswell's second wife.  His first wife Ellen Hunt had died and he had a young son (Joseph) being looked after by his maternal grandparents the Hunt family. The young son is my ancestor.

However, Sarah Brightmore's parents were Charles Brightmore and Sarah Barnes who married 28 October 1818 in Pentrich.  Sarah Barnes was born about 1794 and her parents were George Barns and Mary Whyssall.

Perhaps the George Barns who was buried on 10/11/1815 was the person who married Mary Whyssall (and she was the Mary Barnes who was buried 05/7/1854).

So thank you for your information.  I really enjoy filling in the links of the family tree.
